GIVING TUESDAY-Fashion with a Cause

It is the season of giving thanks- Being thankful for our families, friends, and our many blessings. Many of us want to make a difference in the world and might not know where to start, but even a small act of kindness or contribution to a good cause can make a difference. No amount is too small or act to little when it is done with a good heart.

This holiday season, we hope that as you give thanks for what you have, that you will keep in mind those who may not be as fortunate as you. Whether it be by donating your money to a charitable cause or volunteering your time at a local shelter, every little act of kindness and good intention makes a difference. Here at Carnaby Street Style, we take pride in promoting lines in our store that give back to good causes and takes steps toward creating a better world.

Pura Vida is a line of bracelets that we are very passionate about since the company not only provides full time jobs for artisans in Costa Rica, but also donates to over 200 great charities with their Charity Collection. A portion of each bracelet sold goes to specific cause or charity of your choosing, such as Breast Cancer awareness, Adoption awareness, Anti-Child Abuse awareness, and Anti-Domestic Violence awareness. We stock over 50 of the charity bracelets in the store.

Good Work(s) Make a Difference is another line that helps good causes here in the United States. With each bracelet, candle, necklace, or journal purchased 25% is donated to feeding the homeless as well as supporting after-school programs for underprivileged children. Each year Good Work(s) selects a different charity to donate to.

Last but not least, Far Fetched is a Fair Trade company that we proudly support. Far Fetched is known for designing fun, creative and heartfelt jewelry, rich in culture and craft. They are committed to conscious business practices with their motto being: be a positive influence on the world. Each handmade piece of Far Fetched jewelry is made by artisans in Mexico and Far Fetched is part of the Greater Good family, donating over $35 million to charitable causes since 1999. Every piece of jewelry purchased is a beautiful and unique keepsake that supports people, pets, and the planet.

As you are holiday shopping this year, we encourage you to give gifts that not only bring joy to the receiver, but also give back to those in need. Thank You for continuing to support good causes!

Mixing IT Up

Mixing IT Up

It is no secret that flannels and plaids are on trend this season; they are simply everywhere, in every color and form. We love a good flannel with boots and a chunky scarf, but we want to challenge you to try mixing it up a bit! It might seem silly, but mixing different prints and patterns is actually a challenge for some of us. It can be tricky to get the right print combo without clashing or over doing it, but don’t worry, we have some tips to help that we are sure you will love!

It can be a lot of fun mixing different prints and patterns together in one look. If you haven’t mixed prints very much, we suggest that you pick one dominant print then add on a more subtle print or pattern as an accent. For example, we picked an Aztec print shift dress and added on a cardigan that has a pop of plaid in the collar. Another example is having a graphic scarf and pairing it with a top that has checker print on the sleeves. Even if the prints are quite different, staying within the same color family helps them to complement each other without clashing.

One of our favorite combinations is pairing stripes with polka dots or different stripes together. We recommend playing around with the scale of these prints and patterns. If you want to pair different stripes together try pairing narrow and wide stripes together or stripes that go in opposite directions from each other.

So many scarves are on trend with the mixing print trend this fall. We love plaid winter scarves that have hounds tooth or herringbone patterns on the flip side. You can pair this mixed print scarf with a flannel of like colors, or wear it with a solid color top and add animal print shoes or color blocked leg warmers with boots.

Other Tips:

  • Treat stripes as a neutral that can be paired with any print.
  • Tie a plaid shirt around the waist of a printed outfit for a funky touch.
  • Mixing prints or patterns with different textures; such as cutouts, fur, leather, and chunky knits.
  • Try pairing similar prints that have boldly contrasting colors.
  • Pick two different prints, like floral, that share a single color. Can tie them together even more with a solid color shoe bag that matches that color.

The possibilities are endless, it’s fun to try pairing many different prints and see what creations you come up with.
