Something Old, Something New....

When it comes to weddings, there are many traditions followed and superstitions believed, depending on your culture or religion. One tradition that is well known across the globe and has been practiced for generations is to wear "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and A Sixpence in your shoe (a British custom). "

Many of us are familiar with this saying  (maybe not that last part). This tradition originates from an Old English rhyme and the tradition is for a bride to wear these four objects on her wedding day as good luck charms. The final part of the rhyme, "A Sixpence in your shoe", is a British custom. Although putting a coin in their shoe is not widely followed now, some brides do wear coins on a necklace or sewn into a secret pocket on their dress as a wish for good fortune and prosperity.

But what's the meaning behind this rhyme???

Something Old represents Continuity
Something New offers optimism for the Future
Something Borrowed symbolizes borrowed Happiness
Something Blue stands for Purity, Love, and Fidelity
A Sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good Fortune and Prosperity

These items are usually gifted to the bride as little tokens of love from their mother, sister, relatives, or close friends before she walks down the aisle.

As Wedding Season rapidly approaches, we wish all brides and their grooms a very joyous and prosperous life together.

Before the "I do's" and the Happily Ever After, comes all of the events before the special day. If you are recently engaged and are in need of dresses to wear to all of your bridal events, Carnaby Street Style is stocked up with white dresses just for the occasion. We also have great gift ideas for your bridal party and special guests.

Golden Flash Pride

Show that GOLDEN FLASH  KSU Pride!
Did you know that Kent State's iconic Golden Eagle, "Flash," was not always an eagle? Flash has been a golden retriever in the past, as well as a cartoon character named Grog, a lightning bolt, and even a character named Freddie Flash who wore blue and gold and rode a gold palomino horse.
The Flashes' mascot has had many different faces and names, but we love Kent State University's current mascot, Flash the Golden Eagle. He brings so much energy to the sporting events which he regularly attends and brings many smiles to the faces of his fans.
Each day we get the opportunity to meet people from all over the world who come to Kent to attend, and visit, our neighboring university. KSU has brought in thousands of people from all different cultures and walks of life, adding so much diversity to this historic town. We are proud to be a part of this community.
