Style it your way!

One of our favorite things about working in retail is getting to see how each of our customers chooses to style their outfits. We've seen so many creative ways to wear the same item of clothing by so many different people. You could say that you, our fabulous customers,  inspired us to write this post.

This week we decided to pick an item of clothing and wear it in two contrasting styles. We wanted to show that two people who have opposite styles, like grungy or sophisticated, can wear the same thing, but just style it in their own way.

Using the same sweater, we put together one outfit for someone with a very trendy and girly style and another outfit for someone who dresses a bit more casual and laid back. Layering this sweater over a dress with tights and a scarf has a completely different vibe than when worn with jeans, an oversized sweater, and sneakers.

For Emma, we took this simple gray dress and styled it for someone very sophisticated and professional with heels, glasses, and  conservative hair and makeup. Then we took the same dress, tied on a flannel, added leggings, chucks, heavy makeup, and roughed up the hair a little for this fun grunge inspired look!

Using a little creativity, there is so much you can do with just one piece of clothing. How would you style these pieces?

A Look at the Upcoming Trends of 2016

Each  new year brings  new experiences and fresh ideas, and of course, new fashion trends.
Here's a quick look at the upcoming trends of 2016!
The Pantone Color of the Year for 2016, for the first time ever, is a combination of two shades, Rose Quarts and Serenity. These two colors combined create a very soft, romantic, and feminine mood.

The scarf is coming back in a big way this season with styles that are thinner and longer. Made to wear tied closely around the neck and hang long, they're calling it the "Perfect Scarf."

Jewelry with meaning will be taking the lead in all jewelry trends in 2016. Lines such as Pura Vida, Far Fetched, Good Works, and Moonglow all have great meaning behind them; giving back to good causes and making a special moment last forever. Our favorite meaningful line, Moonglow, shows what the moon looked like on any special day, such as birthday's and anniversaries.

The biggest clothing trends this year feature lush floral prints, fringed garments and accessories, lighter shades, and crochet detailing.

We hope you're as excited as we are to see all of the new trends that 2016 has in store for us!! Go forth and be trendy!

Flashback of 2015's Hottest Trends

As we move into a new year with new hot fashion trends to come, we would like to take a moment to reflect back on the clothing and accessory trends we saw in 2015. There were so many great looks that we loved from this past year at Carnaby Street Style, let's take a look at a few of them!

The Pantone Color of the Year for 2015 was Marsala, an earthy wine red color. We saw this color used everywhere in fashion in 2015, from tops to scarves to shoes, marsala reigned the fashion color spectrum.

The biggest accessory trend of the year was the Blanket scarf. These oversized scarves, usually plaid, were a huge hit starting in the early fall and continuing into the cold months of 2016.

Some of the biggest jewelry trends that we saw were the Alex and Ani bracelets, Stacking bracelets, bib necklaces, and Pura Vida Bracelets. We introduced Pura Vida at Carnaby Street Style in January 2015 and will continue to carry this great line which helps out so many important causes.

The biggest clothing trends of the year included fringe, plaids, and graphic tees and tanks. Graphic tanks were a huge hit throughout the warm spring and summer months and plaids continue to be seen in all different styles and variations throughout this winter season.

We saw so many fun trends in 2015, but we are looking forward to see what 2016 has in store for us! Make sure to check out next week's blog post for a sneak peak at the upcoming trends for this year!!

2016 Fashion Resolutions

At the start of every New Year, people across the globe make new promises to better themselves, set weight loss goals, or make resolutions to become a better person. Along with all of the attitude, health, and beauty resolutions you may set, we encourage you to add a fashion resolution to your list this year. Here are a few tips and different fashion resolution suggestions to make in 2016!

  1. Be a Trend Setter: Make it a new goal to pick up a magazine every so often and check out the new looks that will be trending. Get a jump on the next seasons trends and you might find that your new fashion forward style has an influence on someone else’s style too.
  2. Break up your Routine: Wearing the same types of outfit and repeating the same look is easy, it’s comfortable. This year we challenge you to break that habit and surprise yourself by putting together looks that you wouldn’t usually wear or making combinations in your closet that you haven’t paired together before.  Add some variation to your wardrobe by buying colors that you usually don’t gravitate towards or a different silhouette than you are used to…step outside the box and out of your comfort zone!
  3. Accessorize More: Never underestimate the power of accessorizing. Accessories can take a plain outfit and transform it, adding some interest and creating a focal point. The simple act of adding a colorful bib necklace to a neutral tunic adds a bright detail, drawing the eye upward, and complimenting other features on your body, such as eye color. If we took that simple extra step of adding on some sparkly earrings, a colorful necklace, or eye catching arm-candy, a whole look can be transformed from Blah to Ahh in seconds.
  4. Make a good First Impression: Always remember that first impressions count. When you meet someone for the first time, the way you present yourself is the first thing they learn about you. Make sure you like what you're teaching them.
  5. Look your Best and Dress to Impress Yourself: It isn’t difficult to dress to impress other people; the real challenge is dressing to impress yourself! If you are able to look in the mirror and nod your head in approval, then that’s a job well done. The only person that you should want to impress is YOU.  When you feel good about what you’re wearing you feel better about yourself.
  6. Walk with Confidence: No matter what you are wearing, if you walk tall with your head held high, and have your shoulders set back, you will exude confidence naturally! If you make it a resolution to straighten your posture, look more people in the eye, and talk with confidence, there will be a noticeable difference in how others view you and how you view yourself.

It’s a new year and a great time to start fresh with your style. Be a trend setter, break up your routine, accessorize, and be confident because the only person you need to impress in 2016 is yourself!!! You are unstoppable!
